Ellen DeGeneres

“For me, it’s that I contributed, … That I’m on this planet doing some good and making people happy. That’s to me the most important thing, that my hour of television is positive and upbeat and an antidote for all the negative stuff going on in life.”
Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres is an American stand-up comedian, television host and actress. She hosts the syndicated talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and is also a judge on American Idol, having joined the show in its ninth season.  She has hosted both the Academy Awards and the Primetime Emmys. One man trying to affect the world.

Ellen isn’t on my list for me.  No, no, no.  Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to be a guest on her show but:

1)    It would defeat the purpose of getting on her show and announcing what How Many Days? is all about.  There should be no quick and easy fixes to reaching the people on my list.  It is about proving social networks combined with the six degrees of separation theory and the pay it forward movement will bring the connections to each of the people on my list.

2)    I’m not nearly interesting enough to maintain an entire segment on the Ellen Show.
Ellen is on my list for a “pay it forward” of my own.  My mission when Ellen contacts me is to get her to agree to feature Brady Thrasher on her show.  Brady is the creator and driving force behind the Affected Clothing Campaign.

Brady has a vision.  Brady has a message.  Brady is selling clothing that simply says “Affected” across the chest.  The concept is simple:  for each shirt you purchase, a portion of each shirt’s sale goes to any charity on planet earth the purchaser wishes.  Have an effect on anything that you or your loved ones have been affected by.  Fight cancer.  Aid victims of the war.  Give to the homeless. Anything.  At all.  Affected Campaign lets each person proudly wear their story and support to help eventually bring an end to many horrible diseases and problems we face in our world daily.

It takes but one chat with Brady to feed off his energy and understand the determination this young man has.  It doesn’t hurt much that he’s from my home town and went to the same high school.  He sought out my help and this is my pay it forward.  He is an official part of How Many Days? and I will not rest until the mission is complete!

Now back to Ellen for a moment here.  She is an inspiration to bringing great causes and charities and human interest stories to the hearts of millions upon millions each and every day.  Ellen cares.  Ellen gets it.  I know that Ellen will get what Brady is doing.  What Affected can mean to the entire world.  I know in my heart that there is a ten minute segment on her show she can talk to Brady, wear his shirt, hear his story, and realizes that the Affected Campaign is going to take the world by storm.  Brady doesn’t want a hand out. Not at all.  I am asking that Ellen give him a much deserved and earned hand up.  Big difference.  So Ellen, how have you been affected?

Oh P.S. – somewhere along the How Many Days? journey, Brady has always gotten into the Ellen audience and was selected to dance in the audience and featured on her website… SO CLOSE… yet so far away.
Are you a fan of her work?  Were you inspired or affected by Ellen?  If so, what do you like about them?  Leave a comment below, post a scene from his films or interviews from youtube with him.  I dare you!
